Weekly Drop: Supply Chain

With the holiday season fast approaching, news of supply chain shortages have once again begun to flood airwaves across the country. Demand spikes are being met with supply chain bottlenecks still recovering from the pandemic. Within this context organizations, industry associations and nations are increasingly looking to build domestic capacity and unleash supply.

Whether you are a trade association looking to promote onshoring, or an organization aiming to tell the story of how you unlocked capacity during the pandemic the Canadian Collection by Hour Media is completely customizable to fit your needs. This collection comes in photo and video formats that can be formatted to fit any screen. You may also customize the frame rate (slow motion or real time) and resolution up to 5120 x 3000K.

Weekly Drop: Women

Women play many different roles. Unfortunately, since the beginning of the pandemic, it’s pushed women’s participation in the labour force to a 20-year low. In the first two months of the pandemic, 1.5 million Canadian women lost or left their jobs (RBC Economics). McKinsely & Co estimates that the global GDP growth could be $1 trillion lower in 2030 than it would be if women’s unemployment simply tracked that of men in each sector. This estimate doesn’t include the added role women play taking on greater care demands at home, forcing them to leave the workforce permanently. Let’s not leave out the women who, after a full day’s work, spend a ‘second shift’ supporting their family and doing at-home tasks (Forbes).

Here’s to celebrating all the amazing women during women’s history month with the Canadian Collection by Hour Media. We have an opportunity to advance women’s rights and equality, and grow back a better, stronger Canada.

This collection comes in photo and video formats that can be formatted to fit any screen. You may also customize the frame rate (slow motion or real time) and resolution up to 5120 x 3000K.

Weekly Drop: Entertainment

It’s Fri-yay! As we head into the weekend, we’d like to give a big shout out to the Canadian entertainment industry.

Over four-fifths (86.5%) of food services and drinking places experienced a decrease in revenue in 2020 compared to three-fifths (60.5%) of all businesses. A decline in revenue of 40% or more in 2020 was a reality for over two-fifths (42.9%) of food services and drinking places, with those in Quebec (50.9%), Manitoba (47.9%) and Ontario (44.9%) most likely to see this level of loss.

Weekly Drop: Small Businesses

Buy local or BUH-BYE local.

Our Small and Medium Business play a notable role in our national economy, and are often central features and gathering places within our neighbourhoods. These organizations, prior to COVID, employed 10.9 million Canadians or 88.5 percent of our private sector workforce (Statistics Canada).

Now these organizations that have been fortunate enough to survive the pandemic are saddled with a collective $135 billion in debt (CFIB).

Eat. Shop. Promote. As our economy reopens we each have an opportunity to support Small and Medium Enterprise – in many cases friends, families and neighbours – survive and thrive.

Weekly Drop: Restaurants

As we begin to reopen, it is important to understand the impact that has been weathered by our food services industry:

– The accommodation and food services industry has seen an approximate 40% decline in Real GDP from January 2020 to December 2020 (Deloitte Forecast March 2021)
– COVID-19, at its peak, resulted in lay offs our hours reductions of almost 800,000 workers in foodservice. (Restaurants Canada, October 1 2020)
– Food services and restaurants are also highly dependent on tourism, and borders closed to international tourists will impede their ability to recover.

Therefore, there is no better time to promote the food services industry and encourage Canadians to buy local. Or it will be buh-bye local!

Hospitals were ordered to stop non-emergency surgeries and procedures. The province-wide shutdown lasted until May 4 when the provincial government allowed some businesses to start reopening with a phased approach.

HMG shot this footage as everything was beginning to shut down. We captured everything from business closures, to people stocking up on essential items, testing centres and the quiet city scapes.
